1. Overview

This Policy describes how you can request deletion of specific categories of your Personal Data held by PlanFolks — separate from deleting your entire account (see our Account Deletion Policy) — and how such requests are processed, in compliance with the DPDP Act, GDPR's "right to erasure," and CCPA's "right to delete."

2. Scope: Data Deletion vs. Account Deletion

Request Type Effect
Full account deletion Removes your entire account, profile, and associated content; account becomes unusable. See Account Deletion Policy.
Specific data deletion Removes a specific category of data (e.g., uploaded photos, location history, analytics profile) while your account remains active.

You may submit a specific data deletion request for categories such as:

  • Uploaded images no longer in use.
  • Historical chat messages you wish to purge from your own view.
  • Device/analytics identifiers associated with your account (to the extent technically severable).
  • Any other Personal Data category described in our Privacy Policy.

3. How to Submit a Data Deletion Request

Submit requests via:

  1. In-app: Profile → Settings → Privacy → Data Requests (where available for the specific data type).
  2. Email: privacy@planfolks.com, specifying the exact data category you want deleted and your registered account email.

Please include enough detail for us to identify the specific data (e.g., approximate dates, content descriptions) to avoid delays.

4. Processing Timeline

Step Timeline
Acknowledgment of request Within [3] business days
Identity verification (if required) Within [5] business days of acknowledgment
Completion of deletion from active systems Within [30] days of verified request
Confirmation sent to requester Upon completion

If we require additional time due to the complexity or volume of requests, we will notify you with an updated timeline, consistent with the maximum periods allowed under applicable law (e.g., up to 30/45 days under GDPR/CCPA with permitted extensions).

5. Backup Deletion

Deleted data is removed from our live production systems within the timeline above. Because we maintain encrypted backups for disaster recovery purposes, residual copies of deleted data may persist in backup systems for up to [90] days, after which they are permanently purged as part of our standard backup rotation cycle. Data within backups is not accessed or used for any purpose other than disaster recovery during this period.

6. Exceptions and Legal Retention

We may decline or delay a data deletion request, in whole or in part, where retention is necessary to:

  1. Comply with a legal obligation (e.g., tax, financial, or regulatory recordkeeping).
  2. Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
  3. Complete a transaction or service you requested that depends on the data in question.
  4. Support ongoing safety, fraud, or abuse investigations, including maintaining moderation and enforcement records.
  5. Exercise the right of freedom of expression and information, where applicable.

Where an exception applies, we will inform you of the reason for retention to the extent legally permitted.

7. Verification of Requests

To protect your data from unauthorized deletion requests, we may require you to verify your identity (e.g., by confirming account credentials or responding from your registered email) before processing a request. Requests that cannot be verified may be declined.
